Athletic: Frank Lampard given green light to make two marquee signings

Despite the current financial climate due to the pandemic, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich stays committed to the Chelsea cause and looks to provide Frank Lampard with two ‘marquee’ signings this summer, according to a fresh report from the reliable The Athletic.

They state that Abramovich remains ‘as enthusiastic as ever’ and is ready to sanction two big name signings, and could do even more business this summer.

The names being mentioned as potential marquee signings are mainly attackers – with Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Lyon’s Moussa Dembele and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner all on the list.

But they also state that Leicester City left back Ben Chilwell remains a priority target over all other linked left backs over recent months, so he could become one of the expensive buys.

Lampard’s see’s Chilwell as the most balanced left back option, and the hope is that Leicester will lower their £85 million asking price as a result of the current climate.

This is a reliable report written by Chelsea Journalist Simon Johnson, and the ever reliable David Ornstein, it will be interesting to see what pans out here.
