Napoli striker Dries Mertens has been targeted by Chelsea, who are looking to sign him on a free transfer at the end of his current deal this summer.
As per The Daily Mail, Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit as it looks like Mertens could now extend his current contract with Napoli.
Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but Football London have come up with 5 potential free transfer alternatives for Frank Lampard to take a look at.
Adam Lallana is the first on the list.
The Liverpool midfielder will be a free agent at the end of June and they believe he could be a good addition.
Then they name Mertens team mate Jose Callejon as another option.
That man Edinson Cavani of course makes the list, another striker Chelsea have been strongly linked with year after year. He is the pick of this bunch so far for sure.
Mario Gotze is an interesting shout as well. German international, experienced and would be a good asset in the squad on a free.
And finally, Ryan Fraser from Bournemouth is also mentioned. Not such a odd link either, seeing as he has also been mentioned with Chelsea before.
