Chelsea ‘outperform’ competition for defender target and ‘concrete interest has turned up’

Chelsea have largely been linked with signing a new striker during the incoming summer transfer window.

But Blues boss Frank Lampard may well also be exploring options to improve his back line.

We reported some news yesterday of the Agent of Barcelona centre back Xavier Mbuyamba publicly pushing for his client to get a move to Chelsea.

Now today there are reports of Chelsea stepping up their interest in Hellas Verona centre back Marash Kumbulla.

He has been linked with Chelsea before recently and is a similar profile to Mbuyamba. Both are young, tall, and dominant centre backs, and both have become sought-after talents.

Italian publication  Corriere dello Sport (as cited by Sport Wintess), claim that Chelsea’s ‘concrete interest has turned up’ for Kumbulla and that they can ‘outperform’ their competition in acquiring the Albanian international.

Kumbulla is 20-years old and has started turning heads of many of Europe’s top clubs.
