Chelsea fringe players to benefit from extra game time as new rule announced

Chelsea are blessed with a big squad giving many options to manager Frank Lampard.

But with a big squad comes the problem of trying to keep them all happy by giving them enough game time and chances to prove their worth.

Chelsea’s fringe players will be pleased to hear the news from the International Football Association Board (as reported by Goal) that when football resumes, clubs will be allowed to make 5 substitutions during the 90 minutes of play.

At the moment Chelsea’s subs are never sure if they will get game time, with a lot depending on how the game is going and also only being able to use 3 subs.

But this change means that Lampard will have a lot more freedom to use more of his players on the subs bench and give them more chances to stake a claim for a first team spot.

This rule change is due to the pandemic and players being out of football for so long.
