Chelsea striker in talks to sign contract extension, agent says he could stay

There are seemingly a number of video calls going on amongst the Chelsea bosses right now, with deals being worked on even in the world’s state of isolation.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will of course be in constant contact with his bosses as he discusses contract renewals, player sales, and player departures as the club must carry on preparing as normal for when football does eventually return.

One player who looked absolutely certain to leave the club in January, could now be performing a u-turn and staying at Chelsea.

Olivier Giroud looked destined to leave during the last window but ended up staying, likely to be because Chelsea could not source a replacement.

Since then though, he has had more chances handed to him from Lampard and he has been playing very well, proving he still has a lot to offer.

Chelsea have now been in talks with his agent regarding a new contract proposal. Although, they are still in disagreement over the contract length, according to Italian transfer guru Nicolo Schira.

Giroud’s agent has also confirmed that his client ‘could decide to stay’ at Chelsea, as reported by Sport Witness.

He said:

“Giroud was an opportunity in January but now, given that the championships could also be played in June and July, he could decide to stay (renewing the contract) at Chelsea for another year.

“However, everything is still uncertain, given the general situation which, in my opinion, may have cleared up in a few weeks, between the end of April and the beginning of May the picture could be more complete.”
