Chelsea left back Ian Maatsen has signed a new contract extension with the club that sees him commit his future there until at least 2024!
As confirmed by the Chelsea website, the Holland youth international has put pen to paper on his 18th Birthday, what a way to celebrate!
Maatsen arrived at Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in July 2018 and has been a regular within the under-18s and under-23s since. He most recently captained the under-18 team to FA Youth Cup victory over Millwall.
The left back is massively rated at the club and has all the elements to be a top class player, he is the closest thing that I have personally seen to Ashley Cole in terms of style of play.
For this reason, he could save the club millions of pounds this summer if they end up losing both Marcos Alonso and Emerson, which is quite likely.
Only signing one left back to replace them and promoting Maatsen as the second instead, could stop them having to fork out another £1o-£20 million on another player coming in, using that to invest elsewhere.
