Chelsea striker reportedly rejects new 1-year contract extension

The season has been a bit of a roller coaster so far for many Chelsea players trying to make it under Frank Lampard.

The case of Olivier Giroud is a fine example. He started the season getting the odd appearance, then he largely played as a third choice even behind Michy Batshauyi, who has been poor.

Then more recently before Coronavirus stopped play, Giroud overtook Batshuayi and stepped up as first choice striker for a few games in the absence of the injured Tammy Abraham.

Right before that, In January, Giroud came very close to leaving the club altogether, with Inter Milan being the strongest linked option.

But this did not transpire, probably because Chelsea did not source a replacement, and Giroud has been firing ever since, being the spearhead to a few fantastic Chelsea performances.

As a result of this, Chelsea have offered him another 1-year extension to stay at the club past this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The offer has been rejected they say, due to ongoing interest from Inter still, and Giroud looking to get more than a 1-year deal.
