Frank Lampard outlines January transfer plans and a centre back isn’t part of them

Chelsea have been lacking a dominant defender with leadership and aerial qualities. However, they won’t be bringing one in during this month, Frank Lampard has confirmed.

Speaking after his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal last night, Lampard believes he knows where they need to improve, and the centre back area isn’t it ‘at the moment’.

Lampard has continued to rue missed chances and a lack of finesse in the final third as his squad major issue this season, and last night proved once again that this is something they need to address right now.

But Lampard believes they might need to be content with signing short term options during this month, as it is a difficult month to sign new players.

As reported by The Daily Express, Lampard was initially asked whether they will be signing a new centre back this window, and he went on to speak about their plans for now and in the summer.

He said:

“No, not at the moment.

“I know and I feel where we need strengthening, not just in January, it is a difficult window for us.

“It is probably more of a short-term window for us.

“What this season has given us and continues to give us is answers on the pitch and in areas where I think we can get better and that’s for me to get right, I suppose for us, but not so much in this window.”
