“An absolute must” – Sky Sports pundit believes Chelsea must sign Cavani

Chelsea have reportedly made an enquiry to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani, according to The Telegraph.

The report states that The Blues have entered the race alongside Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham after Cavani asked to leave.

The 32-year old striker is keen to play somewhere else at this stage of his career and does not want to finish out his current contract until the summer.

Chelsea are looking for firepower up top with Olivier Giroud expected to leave, and Michy Batshuayi just not producing and only playing a bit part role.

The thought of Cavani arriving at Chelsea has not only gone down well with manager Frank Lampard, but Chelsea fans have been reacting pretty positively to a pursuit as well.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson also believes it is an absolute no brainer for Lampard to bring in the experienced striker this window.

In his column on the Sky Sports website, he said:

“They are talking about Cavani and when a player of that class and they do not come up that often, especially in January, for me I think it is an absolute must.

“And if you can get a Cavani in to teach Tammy Abraham – someone big and strong who holds the ball up, put the ball in the box and he will put his head in there. And I just think it is a no brainer.”
