“The foundation is success, and it’s our duty to keep up that success” – Fikayo Tomori on Chelsea

Their are a number of success stories coming out of Chelsea so far this season, and a lot of them were made in the academy.

With Frank Lampard at the helm, Chelsea’s impressive young talents who have grown up in one of the best footballing academies in the world, are finally getting their chances to play in the first team.

One of those who has surprised many this season, is Fikayo Tomori. The 21-year old was expected to be third or fourth choice centre back for The Blues this year, but he has grasped the opportunity and trust put in him by Lampard and has not looked back since.

He and Kurt Zouma have been playing so well together in recent matches, it’s hard to even see a way back in for Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen, and that says it all.

Tomori has been speaking to Versus about the foundations at the club, and how it is up to the youngsters coming through to continue the success that Chelsea have experienced.

He said:

“Even though we’re all young players who are good friends, we love this club and know what it’s built on.

“The foundation is success, and it’s our duty to keep up that success.

“We’re helped by having players like Azpi and Jorginho, they’re the kind of people who instil the mentality required to achieve success.”
