9 out of 21 – Incredible England stat proves quality of Chelsea academy

Chelsea centre back Fikayo Tomori made his long awaited debut for England last night, when Gareth Southgate bought him on inside the last ten minutes in a 4-0 victory over Kosovo.

The appearance stakes claim to Tomori as a fully fledged England international and puts to rest the interest from Nigeira that he might switch allegiances.

Chelsea boys Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount also played in the same match for England, with the latter grabbing his first senior international goal.

It was a great day for anyone involved in the Chelsea academy over the years, and capped off a great week for Chelsea’s England involvement that also started with Tammy Abraham registering his first senior international goal as well.

Chelsea fans and staff were left proud of the boys created in Cobham, and it sparked a post from Chelsea’s Assistant Manager Jody Morris, who picked up on an impressive stat as provided by the popular Twitter account Chelsea Youth.

Incredibly, 9 out of the last 21 senior England debutantes have started their football careers at the Chelsea academy between the ages of 6 and 10.

That’s really quite something and once again proves the quality of the talent produced at Chelsea.
