Andreas Christensen reveals one of Chelsea’s best penalty takers and who will take the next one

Ross Barkley stepped up and missed a late penalty last night in what could have got his side a valuable point in the Champions League.

The Blues lost 1-0 to Valencia at Stamford Bridge, but will feel aggrieved to have not at least got the point.

Frank Lampard’s team controlled large parts of the game but you have to applaud the game plan of the visitors. They soaked up pressure, defended well and took their chance when it came.

The big talking point of course is the lead up to Barkley’s penalty. As he put the ball on the spot and got ready to take it, he was surrounded by Willian, Jorginho and Tammy Abraham.

Willian and Jorginho both wanted to take the penalty off Barkley, but he insisted it was his and unfortunately put it over the bar.

Afterwards Frank Lampard confirmed that Barkley is the clubs penalty taker this season, as reported by The Telegraph.

Blues defender Andreas Christensen has backed that up and admitted that Barkley is the best penalty taker at the club, and WILL take the next one.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, he said:

“We know Ross, he is going to take the next one as well, he always feels confident with penalties, he is one of the best ones which is why he was on the penalty today.”
