France World Cup winner pinpoints the reasons why Chelsea will have a good season

Olivier Giroud has been talking up Frank Lampard, and Chelsea’s chances of success this season.

The Blues have had a frustrating start to the season in terms of results, but there have been many positives to take from the season opener against Manchester United despite losing 4-0, and the Super Cup Final against Liverpool, where they narrowly lost on penalties.

Lampard has been impressed with how his side have played so far, but the whole group will be eager to get those first points on the board.

They’ll have a chance to do so this weekend, when Lampard returns back home to Stamford Bridge for the first time as Chelsea boss.

The Blues face Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, and will hope to turn good performances into a win.

One player who will be hoping for another start is French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud, who is upbeat about the season ahead.

Speaking after the game on Wednesday, as reported by Goal, he said:

“Lampard always tries to be very positive.

“He is always trying to analyse the situation and he said he was very proud of our performance after the games. He said it was tough to lose like that, but we need to keep our heads up but, one more time, he said he was proud of us.

“I feel this squad is very strong in both quality and quantity. I have no worries at all.

“I think we have a super mentality, we are all pointing in the same direction, the same target and I’m pretty sure we can do good things this year.

“The most important thing has been to keep the confidence high and obviously being fearless, playing with freedom and that’s what we’ve done.

“We’ve been very strong. I think we can build good things from here. I feel very good right now.

“I feel very good at Chelsea and I’m very happy and I’m sad after the results, but I have high expectations for the season because we have a very good squad.”
