David Luiz states a surprising reason for joining Arsenal from Chelsea

David Luiz joined Arsenal from Chelsea this summer in a surprising move across the English capital City, one that shocked many Chelsea fans.

The eccentric Brazilian was a Chelsea fan favourite, and was likely to be vice-captain for another Premier League campaign.

But Frank Lampard could not reassure him about game time due to ‘competition in that area’, as reported here by Sky Sports.

Luiz left the club, and has not looked back since.

His new side Arsenal beat Burnley 2-1 over the weekend, and the veteran defender has been lifting the lid on the reason why he decided to join The Blues local rivals.

Speaking to The BBC, Luiz explained:

“I am a guy with ambition and that is why I moved. I like a new a challenge and new things in my life.

“This is what gives me oxygen and gives me motivation and also to really enjoy this moment.

“I could have chosen a comfortable zone and got money and be cool and that is it.”

Interesting using ‘ambition’ as a reason. Chelsea having beaten The Gunners in the Europa League final last season, as well as finishing ahead of them in the league.

However, at the age of 32, you can understand why he’s now needing first team reassurances, and he was not going to get that at Chelsea this season.
