‘We deserve a trophy’ – War-torn Maurizio Sarri makes bold Chelsea claim

Maurizio Sarri believes that Chelsea ‘deserve a trophy’ for the manner in which they’ve turned around their stuttering season.

Sarri, and the team of the whole, have been struck by their fair share of criticism since the turn of the year – and understandably so.

The performance level took a real turn as 2019 begun, leaving both Sarri’s future and our Champions League hopes in doubt.

However, we now find ourselves at the beginning of May, with Chelsea in the driving seat to finish fourth and with one foot in the Europa League final.

If we are able to qualify for next season’s Champions League through either of those avenues, it has to be considered a success. Sarri appears to agree.

Speaking to the media following our 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, Sarri is quoted by the Daily Mail saying:

“I want to reach the final against any team, Arsenal or Valencia. It’s exactly the same for me, who we play. I don’t want to [just] play the final. I want to win it.”

“Three months ago, we were in trouble in a very difficult championship and it’s not easy to react, but we were able to react. Now, in the last 15 days of the season, we are fighting for the top four and the final in the Europa League, so we deserve a trophy.”

Chelsea have a great chance of winning a trophy in the Europa League. We’re just two games from pulling it off.

It’d be the first ever trophy won by Sarri, and after what he’s been through in the past 10 months, he absolutely deserves it.
