The reason why Chelsea signed Christian Pulisic one day after January window was opened

Chelsea completed the deal to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic in the January transfer window, but the winger was loaned back to the German club.

His signing was announced one day after the transfer window was opened in January, signaling the purpose and ambition the Blues had in trying to beef up their squad. A forecast was thrown that Maurizio Sarri would begin revamping his squad, but only Gonzalo Higuain arrived to replace Alvaro Morata by the end of the window.

Chelsea paid £58 million for the 20-year old and there was a plan to their spending. As revealed by the chairman of the Blues Bruce Buck, it was for reasons higher than the just performances on the pitch.

The new signing is very popular in the Western world and his influence among the fans will help Chelsea grow their market in the USA according to Buck.

“He’s a personable boy. He’s well-liked in this country. So of course I would expect him when we come here and play some friendly matches, which is what our objective is in the summer of 2020. I think he will be helpful.”
