Chelsea striker writes his name into Blues folklore during Slavia Prague victory

We were well aware that Olivier Giroud was having a stellar Europa League campaign – but we didn’t know he was on the verge of history!

Giroud has been Chelsea’s starting striker in the competition this term, coming up with the goods at every possible opportunity.

He delivered once again for his side during yesterday’s triumph over Slavia Prague, scoring and providing an assist on the night.

His goal took his Europa League tally for the season up to ten, putting him ahead of the pile, two ahead of Frankfurt youngster Luka Jovic.

Not only that, the Frenchman also wrote his name in Chelsea history…

There will be critics which claim that ten goals in the Europa League is hardly a feat, but Giroud has only proven that he’s too good for the competition.

He’s seven goals away from matching Radamel Falcao’s tally from 2010/11, which is likely out of reach, but you wouldn’t bet against him getting near it.

We already look forward to seeing him in action against Frankfurt in the semi-finals. They ought to be running scared.
