“Hopefully… he’ll get some game time” – Three Lions legend hopes to see Chelsea star get England minutes

It’s safe to say Callum Hudson-Odoi is in the form of his life as a professional footballer. He’s getting the attention needed to break into Chelsea’s first-team – partly from his fine displays and also from the strong interest shown in him by suitors in the transfer market.

The 18-year old has had a good season so far, breaking into Maurizio Sarri’s senior team at times, getting minutes on the pitch here and there. He has impressed in the blue shirt so much that Bayern Munich showed interest in signing him, going as far as making several bids. Their last, a £35m offer, was rejected by the Blues who still rate the youngster highly.

To make his situation even better, Hudson-Odoi has received a maiden call-up to the England national team, despite failing to start any Premier League game this season. Gareth Southgate invited him to replace injured players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fabian Delph.

Former England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney says he can’t wait to see how Hudson-Odoi will perform in the Three Lions shirt.

“To be honest I haven’t seen that much of him play, which is a shame because from what everyone says he is a huge talent. He doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of game time at Chelsea at the minute so hopefully with his call-up to the national squad he’ll get some game time and there will be a chance to see him.

It’s great to see young players getting the opportunity to play for England and certainly over the last year or so, they’ve taken that chance.”
