Claudio Ranieri targets Chelsea’s forgotten man for summer move to AS Roma

When a coach lands at a new club, it is expected that new players will arrive to help him achieve targets and play a brand of football he is used to. So it’s perhaps unsurprising that Claudio Ranieri’s arrival at AS Roma has fueled reports that Danny Drinkwater could be moving to Italy.

Football Italia reports that Chelsea could lose the midfielder to Roma next summer with the former Leicester City manager ready to reunite with his once handy passer. The England international is on the fringes of Chelsea’s first team and has yet to kick a ball under Maurizio Sarri this season.

With just a few months to go till the end of the season, Drinkwater is hoping to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge.

His weekly wages scared away interested clubs in the January transfer window, but Roma have the financial clout to make a bid for his services in the summer.

It’s a long shot, but it would be brilliant…
