Callum Hudson-Odoi names surprise Chelsea player as potential future free kick taker

Chelsea’s free kicks recently have been about as bad as their corners.

For a while we had Marcos Alonso and Willian both looking absolutely deadly from the direct dead ball, and the Spaniard actually racked up three goals from them last season.

Brazilian Willian finally got one in against Dynamo Kiev last week, and to be fair it was a beauty. But our ratios, especially when David Luiz lines up to take them, have been dire.

Maybe that’s what lead Callum Hudson-Odoi to name some eyebrow raising candidates to take over the role in the future.

In quotes on the club’s official website, CHO mentioned himself as a candidate, as well as Emerson’s sweet left foot. But there was another suggestion that raises a few more eyebrows:

“Emerson as well, he has great technique,” Callum replied when asked who were the surprise options to take set pieces.

“I’d also say Kovacic, I’ve seen him bend them around the wall into the top corner,” the youngster went on.

Given he hasn’t scored in over 100 games for club and country, it’s hard to consider Kova a natural goalscorer. But we all know he has superb technique, so perhaps we should let him step up and hit a few?

Maybe he can finally break his barren run.
