Alvaro Morata makes confession which explains why he could never have succeeded at Chelsea

Alvaro Morata really doesn’t help himself much.

He seems like a nice enough bloke, but he just seems to put his foot in it everywhere he goes.

By the end of his time at Chelsea he wasn’t even able to celebrate his goals he was so miserable, which hardly attracts a huge amount of love from the fans.

Now he’s at Atletico Madrid on loan, and he’s really putting his eggs in one basket there.

He’s come (indirectly) from Real, so perhaps it’s not surprising he’s trying to talk up his Colchonero connections to fit in better. But the things he’s revealed may make him even more unpopular with some fans of his previous clubs.

In an interview released today and quoted in the Daily Mail, the striker says he had promised Atleti manager Diego Simeone he would sign for him, “three and a half years ago”. He added that he had given the Argentine his word that he would join him.

Well that explains a lot. No wonder the forward could never get settled or look happy at Chelsea if he was always expecting a move to Atleti.

It’s a stab in the guts for the fans who supported him for so long at Stamford Bridge, knowing that the whole time, as suspected, he was wishing he was elsewhere.

Let’s hope he doesn’t come back.
