Official: Chelsea tie down Cesar Azpilicueta to new four-year contract

Chelsea will have Cesar Azpilicueta for four more years after the defender signed a new deal to remain at the club until 2022.

The Spain international has been at the club since the summer of 2012 and has remained the club’s most consistent defender despite being used in several positions. The former Olympique Marseille right full-back has been a regular in the Blues team for the last six years, featuring 211 times in all competitions and cementing his position as one of the most reliable in the richly-assembled squad.

On Tuesday, he joined Marcos Alonso and N’Golo Kante as the three players to have committed their futures to Chelsea in the last two months.

He was an absolute bargain when he signed the dotted lines for Chelsea in 2012 for a meager £7 million. Having played center back as one of the three central defenders, he has returned to his more natural position at right full-back and continues to shine with few complaints about his displays from Maurizio Sarri or the club’s fans.
