What Sir Alex Ferguson had to say about Ethan Ampadu… in 2013

Ethan Ampadu has followed an incredible debut season at Chelsea with a really promising start to his sophomore effort.

A year ago he was still little know, before starts in the cup competitions allowed him to start to build up a name under Antonio Conte.

Now, one year on, he’s starting regularly for Wales, and that’s bringing plenty of attention to him.

One story that we hadn’t heard until it was reported in the Manchester Evening News yesterday. It’s about a 13 year old Ampadu coming to Manchester for a youth tournament in 2013.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who was about to reach the end of his time at Old Trafford, was watching, and said that he reckoned Ampadu was a “proper United player” –  but in the transition to David Moyes that summer, the youngster was allowed to slip through the net.

It proved to be the making of Ethan though, as he was allowed to come through at Exeter, playing plenty of League Two minutes before finally arriving at Chelsea last summer.
