Thibaut Courtois target considering Chelsea exit ‘due to personal situation’

Chelsea’s first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois has confirmed he’s planning to return to Spain.

Courtois has been a target for Spanish giants Real Madrid for several years now, with a comeback to Atletico Madrid reportedly being another option for the 25-year-old.

The Belgium international has stalled contract negotiations with the Blues and has been asked whether he’s going to stay at Stamford Bridge or head elsewhere, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.

It was first believed that Courtois wanted Chelsea to offer more salary in order for him to extend his stay at the Bridge, but the former Genk goalkeeper has now revealed that he can’t rule out a move away from Chelsea due to his ‘personal situation’. Courtois’ two kids are both living in Madrid, and it’s understood he would like to spend more time with them, hence he’s weighing his options at the moment.

Everybody knows that due to my personal situation, Spain attracts me. If it is not now, it will be in some years.

Talking to LaSexta, Courtois was pressured whether he’s stalling the contract talks because he wants to see if Real Madrid in particular would be interested to sign him. The player’s answer gave nothing away though.

No, I’m calm.

I’m happy at Chelsea. I just want to wait (over contract talks) because now there are many games and I prefer to have my head focused on that.
