“I had a lot of doubts” – Andreas Christensen reveals why he stayed at Chelsea despite January offers

Andreas Christensen made a superb breakthrough into the Chelsea squad last season, and it all began with one great game against Manchester United.

18 months on from that win at Old Trafford, the Dane finds himself way back down in the pecking order. After a spell as first choice last season, he’s now started just two league games this season under Maurizio Sarri.

That’s not nearly enough for a player of his quality, and it’s no surprise to hear he was considering leaving the club last month. But he was persuaded to stay, and the Evening Standard has his quotes on how.

“I had a lot of doubts but as they made it clear I am needed, it really wasn’t that hard for me to accept,” the defender said.

“I’ve been at the club for many years and I still love being here. It’s solely because of the playing time that the transfer consideration started. There are two clear first choices and then there’s me. I just have to take the chance when I get it.”

It’s comforting to hear that he will have a little more patience. We’ve all had a chance to see just how much potential he has, so we just need to hope that Maurizio Sarri is willing to play him a little more between now and the end of the season. That shouldn’t been too hard, as long as Luiz and Rudiger keep on shipping goals as they are at the moment.
