Antonio Conte wants Chelsea striker to stay at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly begged the club’s hierarchy to retain Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge, The Sun reports.

The Italian manager thinks that the 28-year-old striker still has a lot to give for the team and is part of his plans for next season.

Conte also thinks that it’d cost at least £50m to get a similar player to replace Costa, and the manager would rather offer the Spain international a new contract than sell him onward.

Diego Costa has been the subject of a mega-money offer from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian in January with a reported £60m offer still on the table awaiting for the former Atletico Madrid striker’s signature.

The Brazilian-born forward netted a strong 21 goals for the Blues this season, with his strikes earning more points for the team than anyone else’s in the West London side’s title triumph.

Chelsea will be returning to the Champions League next term and it could be a very good decision to retain Costa in the team.
