Alvaro Morata’s hat-trick leads Chelsea to a big 4-0 win over Stoke

Chelsea returned to winning ways following a dull 0-0 draw against Arsenal on Gameweek number five. The Blues’ biggest signing in the club’s history – Alvaro Morata – turned on the show as the Spain international scored a lovely hat-trick for the first time in his career.

Morata got his confidence flowing with a superb early goal, as collected Cesar Azpilicueta’s through ball beautifully to strike the visitors 1-0 up after just two minutes of play. It was his first goal for Chelsea scored by his feet rather than his head, and more was coming…

Pedro doubled Chelsea’s lead following a horrible mistake from Darren Fletcher in midfield. The Spaniard rarely scores goals that aren’t beautiful, and this wasn’t one of those either!

The first half came to a close in a 2-0 lead for the Blues eventhough the side weren’t playing particulary well. Stoke kept pushing for goals on the second, but Chelsea were able to calm down the tempo and strike when they looked the most vulnerable.

Tiemoue Bakayoko snapped up Stoke City’s play in midfield to allow Morata enter a run on the flank. The Spaniard headed forward with full pace but without support. He didn’t need the latter though as he bursted through the defence before finishing his second of the day with yet another clinical finish.

And thinking that was it – you’d be wrong! Morata knew what Michy Batshuayi was able to do against Nottingham earlier this week, so he had to match the Belgian’s treble. With Stoke lacking determination to get anything out of the game, Chelsea found themselves in through the defence as Azpilicueta assisted Morata for his hat-trick. The Spanish duo have now connected four times this season, and we can hope for it to resume all the way until the end of the campaign.

Chelsea remain third in the league with two points away from the Manchester clubs, who were also able to claim the full three points today.
