Andreas Christensen already thought he’d make his Chelsea breakthrough last season under Antonio Conte. But as the season fell apart towards the end he fell out of favour again, and this season Maurizio Sarri has always favoured David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger when possible.
But Rudiger’s injury has finally caught up to him, and now Christensen has been catapulted back into the first team again.
The young Dane was thus the subject of Maurizio Sarri’s press conference in Germany today, where he really took time to praise the player’s performances in what he called “some important matches” so far in his reign, in quotes from the club you can see embedded here:

The boss says Andreas Christensen is ready to play and he hopes he will be very mentally and physically fresh. 'I am really very confident in Andreas. He has played some very important matches very well.' #FRACHE

We really like Christensen as a player, and this run could be a great chance for him to prove his long term value again. If he puts in some of the composed displays we know he’s capable of, we will cruise into the Champions League this season.
