“Chelsea aren’t developing English players” – World Cup winner slams Blues youth pathway

Sir Geoff Hurst, a legend of world football, has come out and said it. Callum Hudson Odoi will have better chances to play and develop at Bayern Munich.

Football.London have the quotes from the man who helped England win the World Cup, and while he’s delighted to see the winger in the England squad, he also thinks he could do better in Germany:

“In terms of Hudson-Odoi being linked with Bayern Munich, it makes sense and I’d look at it and think it’s an easy decision for him to make… Chelsea aren’t developing English players,” the striker said.

It’s painful to hear words like that from a legend of the English game, but he’s probably got a point. If we don’t let our kids play, and with 0 Premier League starts this season, he’s not playing, he might rather go and play in the Bundesliga.

For a club that is looking to build with its youth academy, that’s just not an acceptable reputation to have. Surely the pressure will be building on the manager to use him or lose him from above? They’re watching millions of pounds worth of talent walk out the door.
