Chelsea forwards were “taught a lesson” by this determined Everton star

Dom Calvert-Lewin is a good player, but he’s a relative nobody compared to Gonzalo Higuain. Those two have quite the trophy cabinet between them, while Calvert-Lewin has so far spent his career trying to secure a first team spot at Everton.

Yesterday however, the young forward taught both of the senior options a real lesson in how to lead the line in the Premier League. He didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, but his selfless running and pressing was the basis for him team’s vastly improved showing in the second half.

Former Everton player Leon Osman was on Match of the Day 2, and his quotes, as cited here by the Liverpool Echo, outline just how impressive the kid was against his big name rivals:

“He was terrific,” Osman said.

“He actually gave the Chelsea centre forwards a lesson in how to play No. 9.”

We’re in total agreement. For all of their pedigree, our forwards never really looked like scoring, especially once our initial efforts had lost their momentum.

Put Calvert-Lewin up top for us instead, and at the very least we might have been able to defend a little better.
