Why Chelsea can’t loan midfield star to Newcastle despite the rumours

Now that the January transfer window is open, one of Chelsea’s top priorities has to be rescuing Andrey Santos.

The midfielder has had 6 wasted months on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he’s barely played a minute, and it’s vital he spends the second part of the season on the pitch, wherever that may be.

One of the more ambitious suggestions has been that he goes to Newcastle, who are short in the middle of the park.

Ben Jacobs mentioned this in his exclusive column for Simon Phillips’ Substack, saying that the Magpies had “enquired” about the Brazilian. But this doesn’t make sense – Newcastle already have Lewis Hall on loan until the end of this season, so they couldn’t take Santos too, unless they convert the Hall deal into a permanent one this month – which doesn’t seem likely at all.

In any case, if Santos can’t get on the pitch at Forest, we don’t fancy his chances at Newcastle much either, so it’s probably for the best.

  1. Chelsea FC should keep him in and play him . Santos is better player, he can play alongside to those chosen players of pochie in central midfield . He should be playing for Chelsea not to another team . This manager ruining the quality of the squad . Santos should be playing now for Chelsea FC not to manager favourites . Hope Santos back to Chelsea FC and play . This manager tactical awareness is not good enough . Hope they sign a proper striker and full back especially left back .
