€50m forward is one “to watch” as Chelsea prepare for summer upgrades

Ben Jacobs’ exclusive column for Caughtoffside yesterday has an interesting update on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who has started to be mentioned as a potential Chelsea striker target in the summer.

Jacobs adds his weight to those rumours, claiming that the 20 year old is joining the group of favourites headed by Victor Osimhen as the Blues change their focus to landing an elite forward in the summer rather than a stop gap now.

“Chelsea are still exploring strikers for January but will only move if they find the right name. The elite profile they are looking for is only expected to be available in the summer meaning patience may be needed,” Jacobs wrote.

“Napoli’s Victor Osimhen remains a top target for this summer. Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is another to watch and has a €50m release clause active this summer.”

We wrote last week that we expect Sesko to become increasing considered one of the favourites to join Chelsea in the summer, both because of the release clause and because the other targets are much more likely to be picked off by Champions League clubs.

This latest update seems to confirm that – expect to see Sesko’s name mentioned plenty of times in the build up to the summer transfer window opening and beyond.
