Nicolas Jackson is still at AFCON with Senegal, who have now qualified for the knock out stage with a 1-0 win over Guinea.
Jackson has not started a game, coming off the bench in all 3 group stage matches.
We’ve seen some Chelsea fans paint this as a bad thing – he’s our undisputed first choice striker but is being left on the bench by his country. What does that say about his ability?
That’s what they’re saying, but it’s all a matter of optics really. We shouldn’t judge Jackson on whether or not he plays for his country when we can judge him far better on his many games already played in a Chelsea shirt. We know what he can and can’t do, and what he can improve.
Right now what matter is that we need him back, and we need him as fresh as possible. So him not playing too much can only help us.
