Chelsea could get striking option back in time to combine with Nkunku

Senegal are out of the Africa Cup of Nations, and the headline news for Chelsea is that that means Nicolas Jackson is coming home.

The Lions of Teranga went ahead against the Ivory Coast last night but conceded late and then lost a penalty shootout to find themselves dumped out at the first stage following the groups.

Jackson didn’t get a start in the tournament, and came on as a sub today as he did in every other game. He hasn’t accumulated too many minutes but should be match ready. One would imagine he flies back in the next couple of days, and could be available for selection on Sunday.

In the end Chelsea managed pretty well in his absence in terms of results, and if he can come right back into the team with good form we will have got off pretty lightly. It feels like things have been coming together at times, and the addition of Jackson’s positive qualities could help develop things further.
