“High fever” means Chelsea could miss both of their first choice midfielders for vital festive run

We all knew that Enzo Fernandez was going to miss today’s game after Mauricio Pochettino’s press conference on Friday, but the teamsheet today revealed another absence – Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuador midfielder should be shoring things up while his usual partner is away, but instead it’s a totally new and rather makeshift midfield of Lesley Ugochukwu and Conor Gallagher, with the team shifting to what looks like a 442.

Pochettino spoke briefly to Chelsea’s media channels before the game and revealed the real reason:

“Moises Caicedo has a high fever so he is not involved today.”

That’s dreadful news as we enter our busiest period of the season. Even if it’s a very minor issue which passes quickly, the club will have to be very cautious and will currently be keeping Caicedo separate from his teammates for training.

Even a very quick recovery will likely mean the games against Crystal Palace on Wednesday and against Luton next Saturday are at risk for Caicedo.
