Sluggish Chelsea look a step off it against Newcastle

Chelsea are showing the signs of textbook international fatigue against Newcastle.

The Blues left Moises Caicedo out of the starting line up after his exploits with Ecuador, and Enzo Fernandez, who was picked despite a long trip to play for Argentina, is showing exactly why Caicedo was left out. He had some good moments, but looked devoid of the energy we need to really drive us forward.

Cole Palmer made his England debut this week, and followed that with perhaps his quietest game for us so far.

He, and most of the team, look a step off it and a little rusty. Raheem Sterling of course wasn’t picked for England, and he unsurprisingly looks the most spry.

Reece James was also training at Cobham, but he hasn’t had his best day today. Perhaps it’s just the threat of Anthony Gordon down his side, but it’s not been his afternoon.

Let’s not forget that Newcastle have had plenty of internationals away too, but they look much stronger and brighter.

  1. Extremely poor performance, seemed to be a yard slower than Newcastle, too many side and backward passes and low and behold con seed a goal from a intended back pass.To many needless fouls which again lead to a goal.Again poor team selection.

  2. An embarrassment to the club…too many premadonas in the team on silly salaries. Passion would be nice.
