Chelsea defender has been “managing” injury and will miss games – Pochettino has easy solution

No sooner had he been added to the France squad to replace Dayot Upamecano than he withdrew from injury. Axel Disasi had quite the day yesterday.

We’re not sure how the timings worked out, but regardless, the Chelsea defender has told his national team he can’t play in these two weeks after hurting his quad against Burnley on Saturday.

Nizaar Kinsella’s article on the subject says Disasi has been managing a thigh problem for some time, and just aggravated it at the weekend. Either way, it makes sense to not take risks and to take the chance for a couple of weeks rest.

Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah are on the verge of returning to full training, but have yet to play a minute and will need time to build up their fitness. If Disasi misses a couple of games, Mauricio Pochettino will likely have to move Levi Colwill inside to centre back, with Ian Maatsen or Marc Cucurella playing down the left.

  1. His injury opens the door to a stronger defense with Colwill in the middle where he belongs and a better left back as well. By the end of next week both Badiashile and Chalobah should be able to play 45 minutes each at least.
