Armando Broja gets much needed international rest

After a year out injured, Armando Broja is just working his way back to fitness, and he made two starts in a week before the international break.

That’s a major workload for a guy who has been out for so long, and we are delighted to see that he’s come back from Albania duty without playing a single minute. In fact, their coach Sylvinho revealed that he had only spent two days with the group:

“As for Broja, I have to give bad news. He was with the team for only two days. After consulting with our doctors and Chelsea’s, he can’t make it, he won’t be ready for tomorrow,” the former Arsenal man said in quotes on Newsport.al.

Even without Broja, Albania have had a superb qualifying campaign, topping group E with 4 wins from 6 games. Broja is perhaps their best known player, but having got this far without him, clearly they don’t feel they need to take any risks. Further injuries for him would be as bad for them as for Chelsea, given they want him fit and fresh for the Euros next summer.

With Nicolas Jackson’s hand injury clearly bothering him a little, it’s great to know we’ll have a fresh Broja against Arsenal next week.
