£12m wonderkid to join Chelsea for training this winter

Chelsea signed then 15 year old Kendry Paez this summer from Independiente del Valle in Ecuador, despite knowing that he won’t be able to complete his move to Stamford Bridge before the summer of 2025.

But that doesn’t mean they don’t want to get to know him a little better before then, and as is permitted by FIFA rules, he’s going to come and train with us this winter, according to his agent, Manuel Sierra.

In quotes picked up by Sport Witness, Sierra explained the plans for Paez, as well as revealing his transfer fee:

“We hope for a break so that he can go visit Chelsea.

“The intention is that once the final with IDV has been played he will travel and do some training with Chelsea, as FIFA allows.

“With Kendry there is a signed transfer contract. And in July 2025, when the transfer window opens, he will arrive at Chelsea. There are no termination clauses when there are contracts. So many years and so much money.

“The transaction for Kendry was £12m. It would not change anything in terms of injuries, if that were the case, nothing would happen in the transaction.”

It will be great for him to get a little preview of what’s to come in 18 months time, and we would expect him to return a year from now for another similar training period. Until then he can keep starring for his boyhood club, continuing to get a lot of important minutes with IDV, and hopefully leading them to some silverware.
