The Chelsea wonderkid still living up to the hype

We’ve heard the story so many times – from Freddy Adu onwards.

A teenage prodigy who doesn’t live up to the talent. Football is full of them. That’s why it’s so risky to buy players when they’re so young, and why Chelsea fans haven’t been letting themselves get too excited about brilliant Ecuadorian attacker Kendry Paez, bought earlier this summer.

But the ones who succeed and make it to the top keep shining at every level, and in that regard you couldn’t fault Paez full international debut.

He picked up an assist against Uruguay and looked as good as anyone on the pitch – you’d have no idea that he’s 16.

If he keeps playing like this, and keeps performing domestically, Chelsea are going to be very excited about the prospect they’ve got on their hands. There’s still a long way to go, but so far the Blues will be very happy that one of their youngest investments is looking the part.
