Striker “under consideration” for January move – but it may be too late

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece in the Evening Standard today is all about Chelsea’s tricky striker situation.

The Blues have risked coming into this season with 3 pretty unknown quantities up front. Nicolas Jackson has one career season at the top level under his belt. Armando Broja is the same, and is also coming off a bad knee injury. Deivid Washington is a raw teenage talent who has only just left Brazil.

Kinsella says, as we’ve heard before, that Brentford striker Ivan Toney is “under consideration” as a potential January target. He’s currently banned due to breaking the FA’s gambling rules, which ruled him out this summer.

When he is back in January there will be a lot of competition for him, and there’s no telling how much our season will have suffered by then. It is bizarre for a team that has spent so much on players to not have their striker sorted.
