Pochettino rules out return for player in important position for at least a week

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Armando Broja will not be fit to face Brighton tomorrow night. Broja is at the end of a long road to recovery from ruptured knee ligaments suffered at the end of last year, but is a way off match-fitness.

In his pre match press conference today, Pochettino said the Albania striker was “not ready to start,” despite the fact that he was “doing well.”

That was pretty obvious already – he’s been out since last November, with an appearance off the bench against Aston Villa last weekend his first minutes on the pitch in a competitive game, so we can expect at least a week to pass before he’s considered ready to start a game – and likely two.

With Nicolas Jackson suspended, that means a gap up top – it seems likely we see Raheem Sterling used as a false 9, but there are a few interesting options for Pochettino to pick from.
