Chelsea have today launched their new third kit, and quite phenomenal amount of waffle to go with it.
It’s come to be expected these days – every new kit comes freshly equipped with a 2000 word press release about the design and how it references our history and is deeply connected with the origins of the club and definitely isn’t just a randomly selected colour meant to sell a fresh slew of strips.
In this case we’re told the funky “mint foam” colouring is a reference to the “Eton Blue” colour worn by the club in its first few years. Although the reference for that seems to be a colourised photo, which always makes things look washed out anyway.
There’s also a more modern reference – the 1986/1987 Chelsea Collection kit which was indeed a proper mint colour.
Anyway, like it or not, it’s on sale now and you can get the gloriously still sponsor-free shirt on the official club shop. We will see it this Sunday for the first time when we play Bournemouth.
