Why £8m transfer is frozen – and why it could suddenly unlock after striker’s £46m move

It’s been more than 3 weeks since it became clear that Fulham were the chief suitors for Callum Hudson-Odoi, and that Chelsea wanted just a modest £8m for him.

So that makes it all the more surprising that there seems to have been absolutely no progress towards the deal being done. The season has started, Hudson-Odoi is still training separate from Chelsea’s main group, and a fee still can’t be agreed.

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece today reiterates that the Whites have a deal with Hudson-Odoi, who’s happy to join them. But so far, the game of chicken between the two clubs continues. Chelsea won’t budge on their £8m asking price, while Fulham feel that the fact they’re going to take the winger’s major wages off the Blues’ books means that they should have to pay an even smaller sum.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been complaining in the wake of Aleksandr Mitrovic’s £46m departure to Saudi Arabia that his team still need 4 or 5 players – perhaps it will be pressure from him that finally pushes his club to pay up and get this deal done.

  1. It’s a shame that we have to get relegated before our owners decide to back the manger and his team with the funds to keep us up. Don’t they realise what sort of money is needed to get premier league players these days. Marco is no mug when it come to knowing a premier league player nor is he a magician so come and stick your hands Inn your pockets and fund our drive up the table like you said you would, and before we go down !

  2. With Khan in charge of transfers it is no wonder Fulham have messed up this transfer period. Ward Prowse was the bargain of this season. Max Aaron’s should have been bought and Rodon from Spurs to rid us of Ream and his calamities in defence.. We need a striker and what we got was a £5M invalid. William is playing a waiting game for Suadi money. We should have bought Gyokres and Hamer, but not with Khan and where are this superb South American players Khan was buying.. All rubbish from Khan a man with the knowledge of a walnut. When it comes to football. I see us facing relegation because of Khan this season
