Lazio withdrawal leaves young star on course for long term Chelsea future – after Ligue 1 stop

Chelsea’s moves towards strengthening their new sister club Strasbourg are already pretty impressive, with the Ligue 1 side having smashed their transfer record since they became part of the “BluCo” group of clubs.

This next deal would truly take things up a gear, however. Gianluca Di Marzio is today reporting that Arsen Zakharyan, the exciting Dinamo Moscow attacking midfielder, is close to a move to Strasbourg after Lazio were priced out of a move.

The fact that Chelsea’s backing means that the Alsatians can compete with clubs like Lazio shows just what a leap they’ve made. This move would certainly have Chelsea in mind, with the youngster presumably set for a year or two developing in France before moving up another level.

The appointment of Patrick Vieira as their coach last month was another significant step forward, and we would imagine he’s playing an important role in persuading Zakharyan that this is a positive step for his career as he looks to break into European football outside Russia.
