€16m initial fee agreed for Brazilian talent – who has said his goodbyes

The Athletic’s live blog today has some interesting notes from Simon Johnson on the impending transfer of Deivid Washington to Chelsea.

It’s a deal we’ve known about for almost two weeks now, and it seems like it’s almost done. Johnson stresses it’s not finished, but that it’s close enough to being done that the striker has said his farewells to Santos on social media already, and presumably in person too.

A deal of €16m plus €4m in add ons has been agreed, and one would imagine anything left to be decided is extremely minor, and everything could be finalised within the next 24 hours.

The next decision after that will be what to do with him. Chelsea could loan him to Strasbourg, their new affiliate club, which would use up one of their foreign loan slots. They could also keep him around the first team.

On the other hand with Nicolas Jackson established as first choice and Armando Broja almost ready to be our backup, he might end up with a wasted year on the bench if he stays.
