Chelsea’s three best players pick up injuries – and only two can walk it off

Perhaps we’ve just been made paranoid by the injuries that have all but sunk consecutive seasons for Chelsea, but we know break out in a cold sweat the moment we see one of our players go down with even the slightest knock.

There were three examples last night, each scarier than the last. Enzo Fernandez finished the game tumbling to the ground after a vicious turn a shot to try and turn a 1-1 draw into a win, but hit it straight at the keeper. Even worse, he stood up wincing afterwards, and walked gingerly off at full time.

Luckily there seemed to be no lasting damage.

The same was true of Reece James, who looked hurt just a couple of minutes in. There was understandable concern, but he recovered to play the 75 minutes he was probably assigned from the start.

There was one issue that looked potentially worse however – Christopher Nkunku hurt his left knee in a collision with Mats Hummels, and while it didn’t look terrible, his manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that the attacker will need some scans on his knee.

We knew we’d never escape with 3 from 3 unscathed…
