Chelsea set to send former wonderkid on loan to Portsmouth

Chelsea attacking midfielder Tino Anjorin has agreed to join Portsmouth on loan until January, Simon Johnson has reported in the Athletic this afternoon.

The fact that Chelsea are about to use up their final international loan slots has played a big part in Portsmouth winning the race for the 21 year old.

It’s something of a fall from grace for a player who was once considered one of the brighest academy prospects. Just a couple of years ago he was heading to Russia in order to play Champions League football. Now he’s bypassing the Championship, where he struggled for minutes last year with Huddersfield, and is headed for League One.

It’s been injuries that have held him back more than anything else, so there’s still the potential for him to shine. That’s likely why the loan will last just until January, giving him the chance to upgrade teams or divisions should he find the form and fitness he needs.
