Chelsea drop out of Johnson race with Tottenham closing in on winger who will cost more than £40m

Sky Sports are reporting that Tottenham are in talks with Nottingham Forest over the transfer of Brennan Johnson, while Chelsea appear to have withdrawn from the chase for his signature.

The Blues are keen to pick up a versatile attacking threat following the injury to Christopher Nkunku, and with Mohammed Kudus having gone to West Ham, Johnson was one of the major targets left out there on the market with the right profile.

On the other hand, when Noni Madueke is fit again, we may feel we’re actually pretty well stocked. If Mykhailo Mudryk can find some form that would be even better, and Conor Gallagher looks happy playing in a more attacking role until Christopher Nkunku is back towards Christmas.

We’re certainly one top class attacker short of an ideal setup, but there’s enough potential in the players we do have to cover – and that’s precisely why we’re not overpaying for Johnson.
