Adam Leventhal has been all over the Lesley Ugochukwu transfer story, breaking the news yesterday that Chelsea had agreed a fee with Rennes, and today adding further detail to the quickly developing story.
In the Athletic, he writes that the midfielder is already on his way to the USA to link up with the Chelsea first team, with a medical having been completed yesterday. All of this is happening before either team has actually announced the deal, and potentially before it’s even been officially registered. But with both teams happy with the £23.5m fee and the player already sorted with a contract to sign, things can move quickly.
Update: Lesley Ugochukwu heading to US to join #CFC squad. Medical yesterday in UK. Will train with team & assessed by Pochettino prior to decision on potential Strasbourg loan. £23.5m deal agreed with Rennes yesterday.

The fact that Ugochukwu is joining the main squad shouldn’t lead to jumping to conclusions about his ultimate destination this season. Angelo Gabriel is also with the group on the USA tour, and we already know he will be heading on loan to Strasbourg this season. As it stands, that looks like Ugochukwu’s most likely fate.
